Toronto police say a 16-year-old boy who was shot inside a Tim Hortons in Scarborough late Thursday afternoon has died in hospital.
Officers were called to the Lawrence Avenue East and Bellamy Road North area for reports of a shooting at around 4:09 p.m. and found the victim in the area with serious injuries.
He was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but police later said he passed away. He has been identified as Kian Sam.
On a U.S. collegiate sports recruiting website, Sam is listed as a student-athlete at Agincourt Collegiate Institute, who lists his goals as graduating with a bachelor’s degree and playing at the “Division 1 college level, overseas, and in the NBA.”
So far there’s no suspect description of the suspect(s).
“No other injuries were sustained by staff members or customers present,” Toronto police Insp. Errol Watso told reporters at the scene later Thursday.
“We do not have suspect information at this time. We are still in the midst of speaking with witnesses.”
