GO service resumes in Pickering after diesel spill

GO train service will resume on the Lakeshore East line at the start of regular service Sunday morning.

A train hit debris on the tracks around 10:45 p.m. Friday, causing a diesel spill near Pickering Station.

“Something has struck the diesel fuel tank on the side of the train and has caused a spill,” Platoon Chief Robert White said after the incident.

“We’re kind of stuck between somewhere and nowhere on these tracks on the side of the 401.”

More than 100 passengers were on the train, but no one was hurt. They were stuck there for hours due to icy conditions on the tracks.

A hazmat team was called in to assess the spill.

GO Transit was running shuttle buses between Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa all day Saturday.
