Search Continues For York Student Who Vanished After Formal

Like so many of his classmates at York University, Shane Fair was out celebrating the end of a gruelling semester.

Unlike the rest of the students, the 19-year-old never made it home after the school formal.

The party was held at Ontario Place on Friday, May 15.  Fair was last seen at the bar just after midnight.

For over a week, his friends and family have been frantically hunting for the young man, but to no avail. He didn’t return to the campus in the north end of the city, and he didn’t go back to either his mother or his father’s house.

“This is very much out of character,” revealed the teen’s father, Brian Fair. “We’re always in constant contact with each other. It’s very unusal for him to disappear without telling anyone or contacting anybody.”

“Because he was so well dressed that night walking home, maybe [someone] thought he was worth mugging,” suggested Fair’s mother, Lisa Malo. “Possibly he was injured. That’s what I’m really fearing at this point.

He’s shown above in his reserve uniform. Fair was just weeks away from starting a career as a full member of the Canadian Forces.

On Sunday, search parties combed the Cherry Beach area and looked through dumpsters, back alleys. They’re also putting up posters around the city.

There’s been no activity on his chequing account or credit cards since his disappearance. But so far, police have not indicated they suspect foul play.

Fair is described as:

  • white
  • 5’11”
  • 170 lbs.
  • brown hair with a short mohawk
  • last seen wearing a blue suit with a blue shirt and blue tie

Fair’s parents have put up a $5,000 reward for anyone with information.
