Our community is hurting in ways in which we’ve never experienced before. More than 1300 GTHA residents have been lost to COVID-19.
Those they have left behind are grieving, many in isolation due to physical distancing rules. They are separate from family and friends at such a vulnerable time. They are unable to gather for a traditional funeral or celebration of life.
When our community hurts, we at CityNews, hurt right along with it.
We wanted to play a small part in remembering the people we’ve lost, and bring everyone together, at least virtually, to share some of their stories.
Here are some of the people who have lost their lives to the coronavirus and some of their proudest and most memorable moments told through those who loved them the most.
Mary Walsh
Mary Walsh spent many a day sitting comfortably on her favourite chair, with its soft green cushion, no doubt a nod to her proud Irish heritage.
Walsh was 89 years old when she passed away from COVID-19.
Paul Parkes
Even during his retirement years, nature lover Paul Parkes was always up first thing in the morning.
Parkes was 86 years old when he passed away from COVID-19.
Ruth Cramer
Ruth Cramer didn’t have delicate hands. She had those worker-type hands, coarse and weathered. She was proud of them though.
Cramer was 90 years old when she passed away from COVID-19.
George Morrison
George Morrison was a lifelong entrepreneur with a rare combination of sharp business acumen and that “roll-up your sleeves and get your hands dirty,” work ethic.
Morrison was 95 years old when he passed away from COVID-19.
