Babysitter, 20, pulled from pool unresponsive after girl, 4, calls 911

By News Staff

A 20-year-old woman is in life-threatening condition after being pulled from a Newmarket pool without a pulse on Friday afternoon.

It happened around 4:45 p.m. at a home on Arnold Crescent, near Leslie Street and Davis Drive. Police say they received a 911 call from a four-year-old girl who told them her babysitter had accidentally fallen the deep end of the swimming pool.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and discovered the woman was unresponsive and began performing CPR.

She was taken to a local hospital, where her condition is listed as life-threatening.

“She’s a pretty sharp four-year-old,” Insp. Russ Bellman said.

“It just demonstrates how important it is to teach your kids — even at a young age — recognizing an emergency, knowing when and when not to call 911. And in this case obviously she recognized the emergency and knew enough to call 911.”

Police say they don’t consider the incident to be suspicious.
