Police looking for 20-year-old suspect in downtown hit-and-run

Toronto police have identified the driver allegedly involved in a downtown hit-and-run that sent a man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say around 3 a.m. Wednesday, a Honda pickup truck was hit by a Jeep that was attempting to make a U-turn at John Street near Stephanie Street, north of Queen Street West.
The driver of the Honda, a 39-year-old man, exited his vehicle and become involved in an altercation with the driver of the Jeep, police said.
Police say the Jeep then struck the man and fled the scene, travelling southbound on John Street towards Queen Street West.
The driver of the Honda was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Thursday morning, police said his condition has been upgraded to serious.
Police located the Jeep later in the day on Wednesday, in the area of Danforth and Woodbine avenues, and have identified the driver allegedly involved.
Joseph Alarcon, 20, of Toronto is wanted for dangerous operation causing bodily harm, fail to stop causing bodily harm and robbery.
“We’ve got somebody fighting for their life over what? Minor property damage collision? Individuals that are operating motor vehicles need to recognize that they are essentially operating a weapon,” Const. Clint Stibbe said.
Stibbe said police are reviewing surveillance video from the area and they are still looking to speak with any potential witnesses.
