Countdown Is On To M.M.V.A.s

MuchMusic Video Awards

Crews are also readying the red carpet for the interesting and always bizarre celebrity arrivals. Fans lining Queen Street will get the chance to catch a glimpse of some of their favourite bands and other celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Rihanna, Kardinal Offishal, Simple Plan, and Jessica Simpson’s ex Nick Lachey.

The lineup of artists nominated for awards features a number of homegrown talents from various genres, with punk band Billy Talent, hip hopper Kardinal Offishall and urban artist Massari leading the pack with five nods each.

Niagara Falls rockers The Trews have four nominations with Nickelback, indie darlings Metric and City and Colour close behind with three a-piece.

Green Day and Kanye West lead the list of international artists with three nods each.

Some of the other major and upcoming artists who’ve made waves this year also up for some honours include Toronto trio Bedouin Soundclash, Montreal folk-rocker Sam Roberts, sultry singer Feist, Scottish sensation Franz Ferdinand, the Black Eyed Peas and Madonna.

MuchNews host and VJ Hannah Sung has been a part of the big event for the last five years and despite her experience, she’s still nervous.

“The red carpet is so completely live and crazy, I mean who knows what’s going to happen?” she said.

Newcomer Hannah Simone said she received some good advice from MuchMusic‘s VJ veterans.

“They just told me to have fun and at the end of the day we all know what we’re doing, we know our jobs and it’s just a big party,” she said.
