Brazil Beats Australia 2-0

Adriano netted the first goal for the defending champs in the 49th minute with a left-footed shot from the top of the penalty area. The soccer star dedicated the successful shot to his son, Adriano Junior, who was born in Brazil on Friday.

Fred got the insurance goal in the 89th, clinching the Brazilian victory, with a rebound into an empty net.

Brazil hasn’t been knocked out of the first round of the premier soccer event since 1966.

But despite their incredible record, the star-studded Brazilian squad has yet to live up to the hype. It squeaked out a 1-0 win over the Croats in its World Cup opener. They play Japan on Thursday.

The Aussies were also under a lot of pressure, playing in their first World Cup since 1974, but didn’t capitalize on a number of scoring chances in the second half.

The Socceroos were on a high after winning their opener against Japan and they could still make the second round if they can beat Croatia on Thursday.
