Toronto running back Ricky Williams scored his first CFL touchdown, but it wasn’t cause for celebration.
“It’s just a touchdown,” he said. “We lost the game, it wasn’t enough to win so I’ll have to do better next time.”
Williams is playing for the Argos because the NFL suspended him for a year on a drug violation.
He carried for 31 yards of the 68-yard march.
Spergon Wynn got the second TD for the Argos and completed 13 of 21 passing attempts for 223 yards.
Noel Prefontaine also kicked a pair of field goals.
Any chance Toronto had of closing the BC advantage was lost when Robert Barker fumbled inside the Lions’ 20-yard line.
“We were OK in the first half. Second half we really made a commitment to it and that’s the kind of commitment we have to make to have success,” Toronto coach Mike “Pinball” Clemons said.
BC also has quarterback Dave Dickenson to thank for the victory. He played an impeccable game, but limped off the field in the second half because of a right knee injury.
“I think if I had come out in the second half and played my game, we could have made this a whole lot easier,” he said.
“But you take the good with the bad. For me the bad was to jam the knee into the turf.”
