The Texas Rangers rebounded from an embarrassing outing on Monday, rallying to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre.
Hank Blalock singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to snap Toronto’s three-game winning streak and earn a measure of revenge after Toronto lambasted the Rangers 10-1 a night earlier.
Rookie starter Shaun Marcum surrendered just one hit and retired 11 straight after walking two of the first four batters he faced. His admirable effort was erased, however, by shoddy relief work.
Justin Speier, Scott Schoeneweis and Vinnie Chulk turned in sloppy performances that cost Toronto the game.
Japanese closer Akinori Otsuka worked the ninth for his 19th save.
Lyle Overbay and Bengie Molina each drove in a run for the Jays in front of 20,017.
