Man Unearths War Time Bomb While Digging Out Tree Stump

A man attempting to remove a tree stump ended up unearthing a potentially dangerous relic from World War I or II on Thursday.

The individual was digging away at a nearly 100-year old stump on Fairview Ave., when he pulled out what appeared to be a war time bomb.   In a somewhat ill advised move he drove the bomb to 31 division, causing a bit of a scare.

“Another officer went out to check his truck and sure enough there was a bomb, old military ordinance in the back of his pickup truck,” said Sgt. Ralph Beeler.

Police say the man went to the accident reporting station first but for some reason was redirected to 31 Division.

“The information I got from the E.T.F. is that it was unstable. The outer casing had rusted, and if there had have been any dynamite or anything in there, any explosive, that it would have been unstable enough to blow up,” adds Beeler.

Police say if you ever find anything suspicious not to touch it or attempt to move it.   Instead, call the proper authorities immediately.

“It’s in the best interests of anybody that comes across any military ordinance or anything that even looks or resembles a bomb to call the police immediately,” concludes Beeler.
