Good Samaritan Pays Price For Being Helpful

She stopped to help – and it cost her dearly.
A woman was struck on the Gardiner Expressway near Jarvis St. while attempting to assist another driver whose vehicle spun out of control at about 1am Thursday.
After seeing the car’s crazy manoeuvre, the Good Samaritan pulled over on the busy highway to help. Upon getting out of her car she was hit by a third vehicle that pinned her against the guard rail.
The woman broke her leg badly in the process – but it’s fortunate her injuries weren’t more substantial given the speed cars travel at on the expressway.
The motorist who hit her has been charged with impaired driving.
It’s not the first time tragedy has stuck when a Good Samaritan has tried to help a motorist in trouble.
Five-year-old Justin Nerit was killed in March when a car crashed into the vehicle his father Edgardo Nerit had parked on the shoulder in order to help another driver.
Police caution drivers not to get out of their vehicles if they’re pulled over on the side of the road – it’s better to stay inside the car and if possible phone for help.
