18th Terror Suspect Arrested

A 19-year-old Mississauga man has been charged in connection with the alleged plot to bomb targets in Ontario.

Ibrahim Alkhalel Mohammed Aboud is the 18 th person arrested in the case. He made a brief court appearance Friday and was remanded into custody.

Aboud was taken into police custody at his residence late Thursday, about two months after police forces across the GTA, in cooperation with RCMP investigators, made the original arrests in the shocking case. The CN Tower and Toronto Stock Exchange were reportedly among the plot’s alleged targets.

Police were seen leaving Aboud’s residence with plastic cases full of apparent evidence.

“They had a whole CSI crew coming in and out,” described area resident Jamie Hildebrand.

Earlier in the day, co-accused Asad Ansari was denied bail in court – the reasons for the judge’s decision are covered by a media blackout.

The 21-year-old’s lawyer Anser Farooq said outside court that his client was “devastated” by the decision.

“The family’s pretty disappointed,” Farooq said. “They were hoping to get a different result.”

Three of the younger suspects have been released on bail in the case. Others have yet to argue for it in a Brampton, Ont. court.
