Suspect Arrested For Two Sex Assaults

Women in Peel Region may be breathing a little easier after police arrested a suspect for two vicious sexual assaults in the area last month.

The attacks, which happened within an hour of each other in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 22, prompted authorities to issue a community safety warning.

The first incident happened around 3am near a store at 499 Main Street South in Brampton. A woman was riding her bike in the area when the suspect allegedly pulled her off the bicycle, punched her and then sexually assaulted her.

The man let the victim go after the attack and he took off in a vehicle, authorities said.

About an hour later another woman was attacked in an apartment building at 1300 Mississauga Valley Boulevard. The victim parked her car in the underground garage and entered a secure area of the building. The suspect managed to force his way in, allegedly punched the woman several times and then sexually assaulted her, authorities said.

The woman fought back and managed to break free of her attacker, who took off.

Images of a man wanted in connection to the assault were captured on security cameras in the garage.

Investigators managed to track down a suspect who was arrested Friday at a Mississauga home.

Michael Robertson is facing a number of charges, including forcible confinement, sexual assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm and choking.

The 29-year-old was scheduled to appear in a Brampton court Sunday.
