Fifty-one days passed between Kris Benson’s 9 th and 10 th wins of the season. The right-hander waited patiently all along, and was finally rewarded on Friday night when he led the Baltimore Orioles to a 7-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.
“It seemed like an eternity,” he said after throwing seven strong innings.
Benson was a dismal 0-4 in his previous six starts despite pitching well.
“I had a couple chances to get one, but it slipped away,” he said. “Now I just need two more to get a career high.”
Benson improved to 4-1 against Toronto this year, once again finding success against the Blue Birds.
“There are just some teams that you perform well against and some you don’t. This year, they’re just one of those teams I’ve thrown well against,” he said.
“I know how they swing the bats, so I prepared myself well going into each start against these guys.”
Troy Glaus and Vernon Wells hit back-to-back homers for the Blue Jays in the sixth inning, but that was extent of Toronto’s damage.
“Benson’s had our number this year. He’s held us in check pretty good,” Toronto manager John Gibbons said.
