Jays Rally To Beat D-Rays

Aaron Hill’s two-run homer in the bottom of the 10 th inning gave the Toronto Blue Jays a hard-fought 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Friday night.

Hill’s blast, his fourth hit on the night, erased a 4-3 Tampa lead and gave the Jays their first back-to-back wins in two weeks.

The timely homer gave B.J. Ryan (2-2) the win, and allowed Roy Halladay to avoid his 6th loss of the season.  Halladay looked fully recovered after absorbing a line drive off his right elbow in his previous start.  He gave up just three runs on the night.

“If we had any doubts he wouldn’t be in there,” Jays manager John Gibbons said before the game, referring to the sore elbow.

Toronto fought back from deficits twice in game, tying things up at 3-3 with Frank Catalanotto’s RBI single and Vernon Wells’ sacrifice fly against Seth McClung.

The game marked the opening of Toronto’s final homestand of the season — a 10-gamer that also includes three matches with the rival Yankees and four with the Red Sox.
