17 Workers Idle Huge Ford Factory In Oakville

Hundreds of people work at the Ford plant in Oakville. But on Monday, just 17 of them prevented most of those employees from getting into work.
Boiler workers whose jobs are being threatened by mechanical improvements at the facility set up picket lines early in the day, keeping everyone else from reporting for their shifts. Only one vehicle a minute was being allowed in and many refused to cross the small but effective line at all.
“Brothers stand beside each other … we got to stand up and fight for each other,” one Ford employee explains about his unexpected day off.
The striking workers don’t belong to the Canadian Auto Workers, but remained hopeful their protest would result in the plant being slowed to a crawl and get the attention of management.
But it wasn’t just Ford that stopped moving on Monday. Traffic along the QEW was slowed considerably by the job action, as curious drivers slowed down to see what the commotion was all about.
