The Toronto Blue Jays blasted four home runs and Ted Lilly dominated on the mound for six innings on Wednesday night to down the Detroit Tigers 7-4. Despite the loss the Tigers held on to their one-game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central after the Twins fell 6-4 to K.C.
The win moved Toronto into second place ahead of Boston in the AL East and Lilly was a huge part of it, beating the Tigers for the first time since 2003.
He allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings, striking out nine.
B.J. Ryan pitched the ninth for his 36th save.
Toronto’s power hitting on full display when Bengie Molina hit a three-run homer, his 19th, in the first. The Jays would go on to hit three more solo shots, running ahead to a 6-0 lead that would prove insurmountable.
