Ontario Expands Service Website To Make Ordering Birth Certificates, SINs Easier

Parents wanting to register their child’s birth in Ontario can now do so with a few mouse clicks.

The Ontario government announced expansions to its Service Ontario website ( http://www.serviceontario.ca) Wednesday and they include the ability to register births, and order birth certificates and Social Insurance Numbers. Those three things can now be completed by filling out an all-in-one application.

Premier Dalton McGuinty said his government intends to keep up with technological improvements.

“Ontarians deserve to spend more time with their families and less time filling out forms,” McGuinty said in a statement. “By making more services available online, we’re giving more families better access to faster, easier services.”

Ontario residents can now also order marriage and death certificates over the Internet. The technology is not unlike online banking and apparently has similar customer protection and security.

In announcing the new service availability, McGuinty said the new additions would soon be accompanied by a money-back guarantee.

Since November 2005, the government has received about 242,000 online applications for birth certificates.

The website to access the application forms is at www.serviceontario.ca.
