A’s Sweep Twins For First ALDS Win In 14 Years

When the baseball season began, no one thought the Minnesota Twins would be there when the final bell rang.

But they were.

The team that made a believer out of so many had all the advantages going into the playoffs. They managed to secure first place and avoid the Yankees in the opening round.

They were playing the first two games in the Metrodome, where they’ve been a major force.

And it seemed their luck wouldn’t run out.

But that’s before they met Oakland.

The clock struck a figurative 12 for the Cinderella team Friday, as the A’s finished off a series sweep in the Golden State with an easy 8-3 victory.

Marco Scaturo tied an Oakland record with four RBIs while Milton Bradley homered and was involved in the most controversial play of the game, throwing out Torii Hunter in a disputed call at the plate.

With the Twins in the middle of a rally and down 4-1 in the sixth, Hunter tried to score on an RBI single by Rondell White. Bradley’s throw was on the money and in a close call that Hunter swears he made, he was tagged out. End of rally and end of season.

It was Oakland’s first division championship series win in 14 years.

It’s been a while,” confirms Eric Chavez, who also pulled one out of the park. “We’ve had a lot of chances at it, and we’ve finally been able to do it.”

The A’s will now face the winner of the Yankees-Tigers series Tuesday night.

The Tigers beat the Yankees 6-0 Friday night to take a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five American League playoff series after the Yanks managed just five hits off Kenny Rogers.
