The Boatmen lost in front of a season-high crowd of 38,123 at the Rogers Centre and will play Winnipeg in the division semi-final. Arland Bruce scored the team’s lone touchdown on a five-yard pass from veteran quarterback Damon Allen in the second quarter.
Bruce performed one of the most spectacular plays of the game, taking a pass all the way down the sideline then scrambling into the end zone, but it didn’t count as he stepped out of bounds by a hair at the left line – it would’ve been a 60-yard TD run.
The Als scored their first TD in the first three minutes of the second quarter after trading singles with Toronto in the first. Bruce answered back with Toronto’s only TD about five minutes later. Noel Prefontaine kicked three field goals for the Argos.
Robert Edwards scored for the Als on an eight-yard run in the fourth and Damon Duval got his third field goal in the final minute of the quarter.
