Britney Spears may have put her music on hold as she took on motherhood, but that doesn’t mean fans aren’t still downloading as much of the star as they can.
A video of Spears burping and talking about her belief in time travel was viewed more than 3 million times on the Internet, making it the most watched celebrity viral video of the year, according to ViralVideoChart.com.
Coming in second was exclusive MuchMusic footage of Britney’s estranged husband Kevin Federline apparently receiving a text message informing him that Spears had filed for divorce. It received nearly 2 million hits.
Viral video is a term referring to clips that gain popularity after being posted on the Internet – like viruses they tend to spread through emails and blogs.
Seinfeld star Michael Richards was third for his racist remarks made on stage at the Laugh Factory comedy club in Hollywood. The November incident, in which Richards blew up after apparently being heckled by crowd members, was recorded on digital camera footage that was then posted on the Web and broadcast on TV.
Among the other popular videos of 2006: actress Lindsay Lohan trash talking socialite Paris Hilton, a video of Hilton crashing a Bentley, and Brit actress Keira Knightley’s version of Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head, played on her teeth, from The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Hilton appears twice in the top 10 – a video of her singing happy birthday to Playboy founder Hugh Hefner came in at number 8.
