Cops Display Valuable Jewels Found In Robbery Raids

But if the people cops have now arrested for the cunning crimes are the right suspects, they weren’t quite clever enough.

Peel Regional Police have collared eight suspects after a Brampton jewelry store was robbed last month.

One of the thieves only got inside the normally secure Zaibi Jewellers in Brampton by showing up in a black burqa. That’s the traditional dress worn by Muslim women, but in this case it was used to hide the robber’s identity and trick store personnel into letting the gang in.

They wound up taking what they wanted while leaving the owner badly beaten.

It took a task force six weeks to find who they were looking for, culminating in some early morning raids on Thursday.

“A total of five search warrants were executed at 6:00 in the morning in the city of Mississauga, in Toronto and in Ajax,” reveals Det. Sgt. Bruce Chapman. “Six suspects were sought for a variety of robbery related offences. Additional search warrants were executed by our Fraud Bureau.”

The suspects are accused of pulling the same trick at stores in August and October 2005.

Police held a show and tell displaying some of the loot they found in all three heists, with the ill gotten goods totaling in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Seven men and a woman have been charged.

The males all had bail hearings on Thursday.
