Colts and Bears To Meet In Super Bowl XLI

There’s one more game left in the 2006-07 NFL season, and it will feature the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears.

Chicago won the National Football Conference berth in Sunday’s early game, getting behind their vaunted defence and disposing of the storybook New Orleans Saints 39-14.

Led by All-Pro linebacker Brian Urlacher, the Bears defence was the story, swarming around Drew Brees, Reggie Bush and the rest of a Saints offence that made headlines for much of the season.

And so,

They could have found themselves in a rematch with the Pats too, but for an astounding and heroic effort from Peyton Manning and the Colts in Sunday’s late contest.

After finding themselves down 18 early and scoring just six points in the first half, it looked like Manning would again fall to his counterpart and nemesis Tom Brady, who boasted an all-time playoff mark of 12-1 heading in.

But after scoring to start the second, Manning and the Colts battled all the way back, and took a 38-34 lead on a Joseph Addai touchdown run with one minute left that sent the RCA Dome fans into hysterics.

Brady threw an interception on the ensuing drive to seal the four-point win, and Manning can finally say he beat the Patriots when it mattered. The 18-point comeback was the largest in conference championship history.

Manning will now get a chance to establish himself as the game’s top pivot, should he successfully navigate his team past Urlacher and company on February 4 in Miami.

It promises to be Super.
