R&B Singer Brandy Involved In Fatal Car Crash

A Los Angeles car crash involving R&B singer Brandy last month left a 38-year-old woman dead.

The December 30th pile-up involved four cars in all and appeared to begin when the 27-year-old actress and singer failed to slow down on the 405 Freeway.

According to a California Highway Patrol report, her 2007 Land Rover was traveling at 110 km/h when it struck the back of a 2005 Honda being driven by Awatef Aboudihaj. Aboudihaj’s car struck another vehicle, hit the centre divider, then was struck by an oncoming car driven by 50-year-old Mallory Ham.

Aboudihaj was taken to hospital following the crash, but succumbed to blunt-force injuries. Her death was ruled an accident by the coroner’s office.

Ham was also hurt, but not seriously.

Brandy wasn’t injured in the crash, and her publicist Courtney Barnes says she wasn’t under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.

“She wishes to publicly express her condolences to the family of the deceased,” Barnes said.

No arrests have been made in the crash, which is under investigation.

Brandy, whose full name is Brandy Norwood, starred in the sitcom Moesha from 1996 to 2001. Before that she was known primarily for her recording career, singing the hits Sittin’ Up In My Room and The Boy Is Mine.

Most recently she appeared as a judge on the program America’s Got Talent.
