Last Day To Use Old TTC Tokens

This article is more than 5 years old.
They’re small, they’re expensive and as of today, they’re relatively useless.
The old TTC tokens have been in use on the system since 1975, but Wednesday marks the last day they’ll be accepted at turnstiles, collector booths or on buses and streetcars.
The Commission was forced to upgrade the old fare discs at a cost of $1.7 million – or around 8 cents a piece – after experiencing increasingly expensive problems with counterfeiters.
The new tokens are two coloured and much harder to accurately reproduce.
The change means commuters who haven’t used up the fares before Thursday will have to do a little travelling to get them exchanged.
The booths accepting the old for the new are located at the following subway stations:
- Bloor-Yonge,
- Finch,
- Kipling,
- Warden or
- T.T.C. H.Q. at 1900 Yonge St.
But don’t wait if you want to get equal value for your equal exchange. The trade-in program ends at the end of next month on February 28.
