Just 15 kilometres north of the popular tourist zone where 19-year-old Adam De Prisco of Woodbridge Ont., was killed, more than a dozen armed assailants staged and videotaped simultaneous attacks against two offices of the state attorney general in Acapulco on Tuesday.
At least seven people were killed.
Five state police investigators and two secretaries were among the dead.
Eight gunmen are believed to have taken part in the attacks. All escaped.
Officials did not provide a motive for the killings and haven’t commented on why the attacks were videotaped.
The area has been plagued by violence lately, forcing Mexican President Felipe Calderon to send more than 7,000 troops to the region last month to fight gangs.
Tourists have not been shielded from Acapulco’s violence.
Most recently, two tourists from Ontario suffered minor injuries after being grazed by bullets fired at the city’s Casa Inn Hotel. Both were treated and released from a local hospital.
DePrisco was killed after what has been deemed a hit-and-run, but his family and friends allege he was beaten to death.
Last month, a man from Chatham, Ont., was struck by a car and killed in Guadalajara, and Domenic and Nancy Ianiero, also of Woodbridge, were found murdered in their room at a resort in the Mayan Riviera nearly a year ago.
