Water Main Break Leaves Building Residents Without Water

Residents in two Mississauga high-rise buildings could be without water for most of the day because of a water main break in the area.

Many of the 500 or so people living at the Dixie and Lakeshore-area apartments are elderly and stranded inside.

The water flowing out of the ground has reportedly entered the building’s water supply, posing sanitary issues. The ramp into the building’s parking lot has also been flooded.

Property manager Anna Monti hopes officials from Peel region can help provide clean water to those living in the buildings.

“We have 270 units. Approximately double the residents. We have no water, and we’re trying to get water supply in,” she confirmed. “We’re going to be contacting the city to get water into the building for our residents. Most of our residents are elderly and we need assistance that way.”

Public works crews have arrived on the scene and they’re looking at the broken main, but it’s unclear how long it might take to make the necessary repairs and get the water back on for residents but it could be as late as Friday.

An emergency water line may be run into the high-rises until the main problem can be fixed, but that as well would take time to install.

Water costs to rise as of March
