Man Killed In Four-Vehicle Accident On Highway 401

A man has been killed in a four-vehicle crash on Highway 401 overnight.

The westbound express lanes were shut at Victoria Park Ave. for hours following the accident, which occurred when the victim reportedly lost control of the car just after midnight.

The vehicle struck the guardrail and then was hit by another car.

Authorities say speed and road conditions were factors in the crash.

A third car and a tractor trailer were also involved in the chain-reaction crash, but there were no other major injuries.

Officers investigated at the scene for nearly five hours, forcing that stretch of roadway to be shut down. It was reopened at about 5am.

The major snowstorm that hit the GTA Tuesday night and carried on into Wednesday contributed to hundreds of accidents on the roads, most of them minor.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the OPP’s Toronto detachment at 416-235-4981.
