Several Injuries In Three Crashes Around Toronto

Firefighters worked for more than half an hour to free a man trapped in the wreckage of his car after it crashed on Allen Road early Saturday.

The accident happened on the southbound lanes at Lawrence when a car rear-ended a taxi, veered off and then crashed into a bridge abutment.

Authorities say excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

Emergency crews worked for over 40 minutes to free the driver trapped behind the wheel (pictured), who was later taken to hospital by ambulance. Despite the damage, the motorist only suffered minor injuries.

Another accident on the Lake Shore has left one man in critical condition.

It happened near Ontario Place around 8pm Friday night when a court van and a Volkswagen collided.

The driver of the VW Golf – a man in his 50s – was critically hurt and the other driver and passenger are expected to be okay.

And police believe alcohol was a factor in another accident, this one involving a pedestrian who apparently darted out into traffic early Saturday.

The 50-year-old man was rushed to hospital after he was hit by a taxi on Bloor Street near Shaw. He apparently ran out between two cars and the force of the impact shattered the cab’s windshield.

The pedestrian in expected to be okay.
