Mystery Package Found At Cdn Embassy In Paris A False Alarm

A suspicious package that prompted the evacuation of the Canadian Embassy in Paris has turned out to be a false alarm.

Fears were raised after an employee suffered a nosebleed and felt ill after opening the mysterious envelope. It contained a tissue that had apparently been soaked in some kind of liquid.

Fire department spokesperson Florent Hivert said early tests determined the substance wasn’t toxic.

The employee was taken to hospital to be treated, and the tissue was sent to a laboratory for further tests. It’s not clear if there was any kind of message in the envelope.

The embassy is located on the posh shopping strip of Avenue Montaigne, near the Champs-Elysees. The street was temporarily shut to traffic as the building was cleared out. Passers-by watched from afar as police secured the area and men in protective jumpsuits and gas masks entered the facility to make sure it was safe.

Embassy officials so far haven’t commented on the incident, nor has France’s Interior Ministry.
