Temporary Subway Shutdown Ends But Riders May Be Delayed

Think there’s a big backlog on the streets of the city during rush hour? Trying closing down the busiest parts of the subway.
That’s just what riders faced for over an hour Tuesday after a medical emergency at the busy Bloor Station forced the TTC to shut down all service between Eglinton and Union.
It started at 2pm and the system went back to normal 60 minutes later. But that’s a relative term.
Because of the long delay, there are huge back-ups on the affected line and passengers are being warned to expect big crowds and long delays as the TTC tries to get back on schedule.
Shuttle buses were running along Yonge St. but are being discontinued.
Union and Eglinton stations are expected to be jammed through much of the rush and riders are being advised to consider an alternate – like the Bloor-Danforth or the Spadina line – to get where they’re going for the next little while.
The Bloor-Danforth alternative is only a slightly better option, however. Trains weren’t stopping at Yonge during the temporary outage and the line is feeling those effects, as well. Things get better as you head east and west.
