Oops, she did it again?
Many are wondering once more what is going on with Britney Spears, as the pop singer reportedly left rehab less than a day after checking in – the second time she’s done so in a week.
According to one report, Spears left the Promises Malibu Treatment Center Wednesday morning after calling a car service. She’d only checked in the day before, according to her manager, Larry Rudolph.
“We ask that the media respect her privacy as well as those of her family and friends at this time,” Rudolph was quoted as saying earlier, though he didn’t provide details about why she checked in or where she planned to undergo the treatment.
But two reports said the 25-year-old left the Malibu facility within hours of her arrival, suggesting she couldn’t handle it. A typical stay there is 45 days.
There’s no word on where she may have gone.
It’s thought to be the second time Spears tried to go to rehab in a week. It was reported that she went to a facility late last week (identified in at least one report as Eric Clapton’s Crossroads in Antigua), promptly left, then embarked on a wild weekend that included shaving her head, getting a tattoo, and partying with friends. She was later seen wearing a cheap blond wig.
Promises spokesperson Eddie Michaels wouldn’t confirm whether Spears had checked in or left, and didn’t offer any comment.
A New York psychiatrist suggested Spears’s strange behaviour lately could be linked to postpartum depression.
The singer has been photographed in recent months partying it up with girlfriends, often wearing very little and sometimes not even underwear. In November Spears filed from divorce from Kevin Federline after two years of marriage and two children.
They’re continuing to share custody of Sean Preston, 17 months, and Jayden James, 5 months, after a custody agreement was reached in January.
Several TV personalities weighed in recently on the Spears situation.
“The girl is out of control,” opined The View co-host Joy Behar. “And, she’s in a lot of trouble. A lot of people feel this is self-mutilation.”
And The Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson says he’s reconsidered the Britney jokes.
“For me, comedy should have a certain amount of joy in it,” he told viewers this week. “It should be about attacking the powerful — the politicians, the Trumps, the blowhards — going after them. We shouldn’t be attacking the vulnerable.”
The salon where Spears shaved off her hair is trying to auction off the locks for US$1 million.
