Senators Eliminate Pens In Game 5

The Ottawa Senators eliminated Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins with a commanding 3-0 win in Game 5 on Thursday night.
The Senators will now await either the New York Rangers or New Jersey Devils in the second round.
The Penguins put up an honourable fight, but in the end they were simply outgunned and lacked the playoff experience of their counterparts.
Dany Heatley, Antoine Vermette and Chris Kelly all scored in the second period to help propel the Sens a crucial step further in their fight for Lord Stanley.
Ray Emery stopped 20 shots to earn his first career playoff shutout.
“I think we stepped it up a notch . . . and generated offence from the defence that we played,” Emery said after the game.
The series marked Sidney Crosby’s first foray into post-season play at the NHL level. The 19-year-old superstar recorded five points (3-2) in five games and along with Gary Roberts, was one of the bright spots on the team.
“He’s been their best player pretty much every game,” Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson said. “He’s one heck of a player.”
Other NHL results Thursday:
Calgary edged Detroit, 3-2.
Dallas got the best of Vancouver, 1-0, in overtime.
The Anaheim Ducks eliminated the Minnesota Wild with a 4-1 win.
