Most people can’t even look at roadkill, let alone touch it, but Jessica May isn’t like most people.
The graduate artist is playing dress-up with the flattened critters, and even applying nail polish to the claws of dead possums and raccoons. The Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville student says she wanted to see if people would pay more attention to the dead animals if she gave them human attributes.
May openly admits some people might think she’s pretty weird, but she reminds everyone that it’s only art after all. Plus, she’s not taking any chances with the road kill and always wears gloves when handling the dead animals.
She adds that all her subjects are pretty far gone when she finds them, but hey, at least they get to go out in style.
