A middle-aged man has been found murdered in his east-end apartment and his nephew faces charges in what police described as a gruesome crime scene.
Homicide detectives were called to an apartment at Coxwell and Gerrard at around 4pm , where they found the victim, 51-year-old Paul Prevost.
“It is being treated as a homicide at this particular time,” reveals Det. Sgt. Frank Skubic.
Neighbours say Prevost was well liked.
“He was a nice guy. Friendly guy,” said one.
Others were startled by the police presence. “It is scary, for sure,” said area resident Marie Jossee Smith. “You picture your kids and you see police cars, ten police cars and it is a bit scary.”
Police did reveal that the man’s car, a red Ford Tempo, licence plate ANJY 173, was missing from the building’s underground parking lot. Later Wednesday evening police found the car near Dundas and Sherbourne and undercover officers moved in quickly to make an arrest. The victim’s nephew, 31-year-old Daryl Prevost, has been charged with second-degree murder.
“I heard some yelling, shouting, saw a commotion going on out front,” described Meghan Massie. “We came running out to see what was going on and it was police officers arresting a man.”
Police are continuing to investigate the case.
