MMVA Preps Well Underway As Showtime Nears

The countdown is on to one of the biggest music events of the year in Canada, and it all happens at the corner of Queen and John Sunday night.
The Used, Avril Lavigne, Billy Talent, Belly, Maroon 5, and Alexisonfire are among the performers lined up for the MuchMusic Video Awards, while rockers Finger Eleven will be playing on a special stage built atop the CHUMCity building at 299 Queen St. West. And if the number of people coming by a day early to catch a glimpse of the set-up is any indication, Sunday night’s MMVAs crowd will be huge.
“It’s a bit of a surprise but that’s the fun of the red carpet,” notes MuchMusic VJ Hannah Simone. “Some people have come in their mother’s car, we’ve had people come in firetrucks. You name it, it’s happened.”
As always there are several stages set up to allow music fans both inside and outside the building to see their favourite acts perform – including one on John St., another in the CHUMCity parking lot, and of course the rooftop stage.
And what would an award show be without a gift lounge?
“All the celebrities presenting or performing are going to come backstage to pick out everything from Mavi jeans to Ray-Ban sunglasses, Nokia cell phones,” details Samantha Haft of On 3 Productions.
The MMVAs begin at 9pm Sunday, with red carpet arrivals kicking off 90 minutes beforehand at 7:30pm. Those planning to attend should arrive early – especially since some fans have already been camped out several days to make sure they get a front-row seat.
