He’s a determined thief who wouldn’t take yes for an answer. And now police are hoping you won’t either and can come up with a name of the man who robbed a Beck taxi operator on Monday. It started when a cabbie picked up a man in the Church and Dundas St. E. area just before 11am. He asked to be dropped off around Dundas and Sherbourne and the driver complied.
But this ride had a twisted ending – when the passenger got out of the vehicle, he came around to the driver’s side as if to pay him. Instead, he indicated that he had a gun and demanded the terrified victim’s money. The cabbie surrendered what he had on him, but that wasn’t good enough for the thief. He grabbed the stunned driver, dragged him out of the car and began physically searching him for any hidden cash. He found what he was looking for, grabbed it, then got back in the cab and drove it away, leaving the employee in the street. By the time cops arrived, the suspect was long gone.
They’re looking for the culprit, the cash and the car, all of which are still missing. But the crook left behind one vital piece of evidence that could see him hailed down by police – his photo caught on the internal taxicam.
The wanted man is described as:
- White,
- 40,
- 5’6″,
- 180 lbs.,
- Muscular build,
- Short black groomed hair,
- Slight beard and moustache,
- He had a tattoo on his right shoulder.
The cab is a typical Beck green and orange vehicle, number 562, with license plate AJMK 175.
