The driver in a school bus crash that killed a 10-year-old boy will not face charges, police say.
John Pham was killed and 15 other students at Mississauga’s St. Alfred Elementary School were hurt when the bus collided with a tractor-trailer on Highway 410 near Brampton and then crashed into the median. There were 27 kids on board at the time.
Ontario Provincial Police officers investigating the April 11 crash said the bus driver had a previously undiagnosed medical condition that caused her to lose control of the vehicle. The probe also found that there was no previous warning about her condition, nor were there any physical indications that she might be unfit to drive.
Pham died after suffering massive head injuries in the crash. Crown attorneys agreed that given the circumstances there was no reason to pursue charges against the driver.
