It was a close call for Canada’s top dog in Afghanistan after a suicide attack on a convoy.
Brigadier-General Tim Grant was riding in one of three military vehicles in the convoy when it came under attack. A bomber blew up a car nearby but fortunately Grant and those he was travelling with weren’t harmed.
According to Major Chip Madic the explosives-laden vehicle went off close to the convoy as it was returning to the Canadian base from the town of Shur Andan.
“Fortunately, our vehicle held up,” Madic said. “It is an indication of the strength of the vehicles we have.”
Grant has been in Afghanistan for the past nine months and was apparently close to the end of his tour. Generals with Canadian forces travel via the same ground vehicles as their soldiers, unlike other forces which often transport their senior commanders by helicopter.
