Milt Stegall Sets CFL TD Record

One man has reached more CFL end zones than any other player in Canadian football history, and as of Friday night that man’s name is Milt Stegall.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers‘ slotback set the new mark against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Friday evening, after taking a pitch from quarterback Kevin Glenn and springing into for his 138th career major.

“First of all, I want to thank Charlie Taaffe and the Ti-Cats for allowing me to do this little time session, thank you very much,” Stegall said.

“I gotta thank God, I gotta thank my beautiful wife and son in Atlanta, my mother, my brothers and sisters, all the fans across the CFL, but specifically the Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans. Thank you very much.”

The landmark score broke the mark of 137 which temporarily landed the speedy receiver in a three-way tie for all-time best with retired running backs George Reed and Mike Pringle.

It was long expected that the 37-year-old would haul in his 138th score, but the 13-year CFL veteran certainly had to wait it out after scoring No. 137 in a 39-39 overtime tie with the Edmonton Eskimos in the first week of the 2007 season.
