In the end, it was a giant misunderstanding. But police would prefer to be wrong, and they were, after warning a young child appeared to have been abducted from a local pool near Lawrence and Morningside Ave. Tuesday afternoon.
Cops were called to the Manse Road Pool around 5:20pm after reports a male had been seen spiriting away a 10-year-old boy. Witnesses insisted the youngster didn’t know the adult and when neither one could be immediately located, a manhunt was launched and authorities put out the warning of a potential kidnapping.
But there was no real crime in progress. The man wasn’t actually a family member, but turned out to be a friend of the family the child was well acquainted with. But that’s not what it looked like to patrons and personnel at the community centre, who quickly dialed 911.
Cops eventually found the missing duo, who explained everything was alright. Despite all the tumult and alarm, cops are praising the officials who contacted them, saying essentially they’d rather be safe than sorry.
