Documentary Honours Life Of Martin Kruze

His story shocked an entire nation.  Martin Kruze was sexually abused inside a Canadian sporting shrine — Maple Leaf Gardens — and the memories haunted him for years until he took his own life after jumping off the Bloor Viaduct.  That was 10 years ago this month.

Now Theresa Kruze is keeping her brother-in-law’s voice alive through a documentary movie, The Voice Of Courage: The Martin Arnold Kruze Story, that was a year in the making.

“In the ten years that have followed there have been some amazing things that have gone on.  Martin’s vision continues,” she said.

Kruze took his own life just days after one of his abusers was sentenced.  In all, three men were believed to be involved in the sex scandal, brutalizing more than 60 victims through the 70s and 80s.

Kruze’s last words were to his fiancée, Jayne.  He said he was going for a long walk, then he said, ‘I love you.’ “

“It’s overwhelming when you see him on screen,” she said Thursday night.  “It’s been ten years and it’s amazing how you don’t forget.”

“Voice of Courage: The Martin Arnold Kruze Story” wil be airing on Rogers OMNI 1, Oct. 28th at 10pm
