Firefighters worked hard overnight to put out an intense four-alarm blaze that broke out near the Toronto Zoo.
Flames were shooting high into the sky when fire crews arrived on scene just before midnight Saturday to Beare Road in Rouge Valley Park.
The blaze destroyed a small barn and an abandoned house. Firefighters had to get their water from tanker trucks, because there weren’t any fire hydrants in the area.
“We’re being assisted by Markham Fire and Pickering Fire,” explained Toronto Fire Div. Com. Lorne Buckingham. “They’ve helped us out with three tankers. Our water supply is running constantly.”
So far, there’s no word on the cause or the amount of damage.
