New, Higher TTC Fares Take Effect

You may not have noticed it if you didn’t ride the TTC this weekend, but it’s now going to cost you more to take The Better Way.

A hike on the price of bulk tickets and tokens officially took effect Sunday, as the transit commission tries to ease its budget woes. It’ll now cost $22.50 for ten of either, signifying a bump of about 15 cents per ride.

A weekly pass now costs $32.25, and a monthly Metropass is up from $99.75 to $109. Single cash fares are holding steady at $2.75. Old tickets are still valid, but riders will have to add an extra 15 cents when they pay.

Riders can also get refunds for their old tickets starting on November 5th.

TTC commissioners approved the fare increase after surveys appeared to show that riders were okay with cost increases if it meant keeping the same level of service or improving it.
