Cops Make Arrest In Alleged “Screwdriver Bike Rage” Attack

Police have made an arrest after an apparent case of “bike rage” saw a man stabbed several times with a screwdriver on a city street. It happened on Friday near College and McCaul when a driver in an SUV turning left apparently cut off a man on a bicycle. The pair had words and the incident escalated from there.

Cops allege the enraged cyclist grabbed a screwdriver from his bag and plunged it into the neck and face of the motorist, who stood bleeding in stunned surprise on the busy street. He was taken to hospital but while his injuries were serious, they weren’t life threatening.

Police recovered the bike at the scene and issued an APB for the suspect, who fled on foot. It’s not yet clear how they found the man they believe was responsible for the sudden attack, but tips from the public likely played a factor. Thirty-four-year-old Yonan Inwia has been arrested and is facing a variety of charges, including aggravated assault.

Authorities are becoming increasingly disturbed at these kind of unnecessary road rage incidents and are reminding those who use the streets – on a bike, on foot or in a car – that mistakes happen and the responsible action is not to let them escalate over something so minor. “My advice to the public basically is to avoid any type of altercation while you’re driving,” Det. Trevor Searles advised last week. “We can’t allow our tempers to get the best of us.”
