She survived for almost a century, but that long life came to a sudden and tragic end Monday afternoon, after an 86-year-old woman was hit by a Mississauga transit bus.
Messina Georgette was using a walker to cross the road near Aquitaine and Glen Erin Drive around 3:40pm, when she was struck by the departing vehicle. It had just pulled out of the Meadowvale Town Centre when it hit her. Georgette died before she could be transported to hospital.
“This is an uncontrolled intersection, there are no traffic lights or pedestrian crosswalks,” explains Peel Regional Police Cst. J.P Valade.
The intersection was shut down as police investigated the mishap.
Police are hoping those who saw what happened will come forward. “There were 15 or 20 passengers on the bus at the time of the collision,” Valade advises. All but four of them left the scene prior to police arrival. So we’d really like to speak to those individuals.”
