The mayhem started just before 10:30pm Saturday when a van reportedly rear-ended an Audi at Highways 7 and 400.
“A rear-end collision occurred and as a result there was a struggle between the persons in the Audi and the Caravan,” confirmed York Police Sgt. Kelvin Chantiam. “One of the persons in the Audi was shot in the head and the other received some minor injuries to the facial area.”
CityNews spoke to the father – who didn’t want to reveal his identity – of the 19-year-old who was shot. He said it’s a miracle his son is alive.
“I was in disbelief. I couldn’t believe it,” he said.
The victim was on his way to the popular hangout Dave & Busters with his friend when the van showed up behind them.
Both drivers got out of their vehicles and that’s when the suspect demanded money and flashed a gun. There was a struggle and as the victim turned to walk away he was shot in the head.
The two suspects allegedly took off in the Audi, leaving the wounded victims at the scene.
Shortly after, they showed up an Esso at Dufferin and Finch and robbed the attendant. Then they robbed another Esso at Bayview and Sheppard and ended the night with a final robbery at an Esso in Mississauga at Derry Rd. and Kennedy.
The violent spree didn’t go unnoticed by police, who tracked the vehicle onto the westbound lanes of Highway 401 at Leslie, where they gave chase briefly. As the Audi sped away, the hot pursuit was called off for safety reasons.
Peel Police ended up finding the abandoned car Sunday afternoon on Creditview Road in Brampton.
The two suspects are still on the run and are both considered armed and dangerous.
