It was the middle of a snowstorm, bad weather mixing with bad blood. Now Toronto Police have made an arrest in a baffling triple homicide that left two men dead, another recovering in hospital and a lot of questions behind.
Something terrible happened in apartment 1401 at 1360 Danforth Road near Eglinton around 2pm Friday. As the snow and winds raged violently outside, cops contend at least five people were getting equally violent inside.
They’re not sure what happened to leave 19-year-old Adrian McFarlane and 18-year-old Tyler Raulsten dead. A 23-year-old was also wounded and remains in hospital, although his injuries are no longer considered life threatening.
Cops arrested 19-year-old Mikhail Myrie on the weekend and the charge of second-degree murder laid against him indicates they don’t think whatever happened was planned or premeditated. The crime took place in his apartment.
As CityNews reported on the weekend, they also believe a fifth person may have been injured or hurt in the deadly melee, but they’re not sure who he is, where he went or whether he’s a suspect or a victim.
“That person we have reason to believe has received injuries,” explains Det. Sgt. Savas Kyriacou. “Whether it was a bullet wound or a stab wound, we are uncertain at this point … That person left the building limping and has sustained injuries that should be looked after.”
Investigators are still puzzled by the motive and sequence of events that led to the killings, noting Raulsten staggered from the residence, got into the elevator, made it up to the 16th floor, then collapsed and died at the scene.
Myrie appeared in court on Saturday as cops seek to put more pieces of this puzzling case in place.
