Celine Dion will battle it out with Feist, Michael Buble and Avril Lavigne at this year’s Juno Awards.
Dion is nominated for a leading six prizes including two album of the year nods for her English and French language albums, Taking Chances and D’elles, respectively. Also up for album of the year: The Reminder, by Feist, crooner Buble’s Call Me Irresponsible, and The Best Damn Thing from rocker Lavigne.
Honouring the best in Canadian music, the Junos will be handed out this year at Calgary’s Saddledome on April 6.
Montreal’s Arcade Fire, Burlington, Ont. band Finger Eleven and perennial faves Blue Rodeo received three Juno nominations apiece. Another Burlington, Ont. group, The St. Alvia Cartel, is up for best rock album for their self-titled debut. CityNews.ca will be speaking with the St. Alvia boys Thursday about their first Juno nod, ahead of their concert that night at the Mod Club. Check back for that story on Friday.
Lavigne, Feist, Anne Murray and opera singer Measha Brueggergosman will perform at the show this year.
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Feist, whose hit One Two Three Four was used in an iPod commercial last year, is also up for several Grammy Awards, handed out this weekend in Los Angeles.
Comedian Russell Peters will host the Junos, while Canadian band Triumph will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
